BRUSSELS – The EU Commission will launch a new circular economy action plan in March which includes a “comprehensive strategy” for textiles and clothing aimed at “stimulating the market for circular textiles.” Apparel Insider has obtained a copy of the plan which is part of the EU’s aim to become the first climate-neutral continent in the world by 2050. The strategy will build on existing and new rules to stimulate the market for circular textiles, with the aim of boosting the business and regulatory environment for circular textiles in the EU via several key policy tools.
The document points out that recycling rates in the EU’s textile and apparel sector remain low, while the industry – which is growing fast after decades of decline – is a major emitter of GHGs.
