BRUSSELS – The European Union has granted funding of €6.75m for a new project which will investigate business models for recycling used garments. The EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme has granted the finance for the 3-year New Cotton project which involves Adidas and H&M Group among a host of fashion and textile firms.
Over three years, the project will see textile waste collected and sorted via consumer apparel take-back programmes, and then regenerated into cellulose-based textile fibres by Finnish biotechnology specialist Infinited Fiber Company.
