BRUSSELS – The European Commission has imposed fines totalling €5.7m on French fashion house Pierre Cardin and its largest licensee, Ahlers, for violating EU antitrust regulations. The companies were penalised for restricting cross-border sales of Pierre Cardin-branded clothing and limiting sales to certain customers.
Pierre Cardin licenses its trademark to third parties, enabling them to manufacture and sell Pierre Cardin-branded products. Ahlers, during the period of infringement, was the largest licensee in the European Economic Area (EEA).
