Earthsight exposes deforestation in fashion supply chains

LONDON – Luxury fashion brands including Coach, Louis Vuitton and Hugo Boss are sourcing leather from tanneries in Italy that use hides linked to illegal deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon, claims a new investigation by NGO Earthsight.

The report connects the American fashion house Coach to a major Brazilian slaughterhouse accused of buying cattle raised on illegally deforested land in Pará. The state has seen the highest rate of forest clearance in the Amazon and is set to host COP30 climate talks later this year.
