PARIS – A French tech business which produces textile dyes through microbial fermentation has raised €3.6m to help take its technology an industrial scale. Pili is aiming to replace the petrochemical-based textile chemical industry – which requires toxic solvents and huge amounts of water and energy – with microbial fermentation. The company produces microbes to make high-performance dyes which are said to be resistant to fading. The business is the latest in a long line of start-ups which are aiming to disrupt the textile production space with sustainable innovations.
