AMSTERDAM – A new analysis of Dutch clothing flows found that fibre blends and losses from the collection system leave only a small proportion of discarded garments suitable for mechanical fibre-to-fibre recycling.
It found that only 5 per cent of Dutch clothing waste could be directed into closed-loop recycling under a sorting scenario that prioritises mechanical fibre-to-fibre recycling. The research was carried out by Wageningen University & Research.
