Cotton output set to fall as costs and climate pressure grows

WASHINGTON – Global production is forecast to decline in 2026/27 as rising input costs, drought and competition from man-made fibres weigh on the sector. This is according to the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).

ICAC said world cotton area is projected to fall by 1 per cent to 30.1 million hectares, while production is expected to decline by 2 per cent to 25.7 million tonnes. Global cotton trade is also forecast to drop by 1.4 per cent to around 9.5 million tonnes.
