AMSTERDAM – Clean Clothes Campaign is calling for a new, legally-binding agreement around factory safety in Bangladesh, while expressing concerns about the existing RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) and its ability to ensure worker safety.

At present, the work of the Accord is being carried out by the RSC in Bangladesh. RSC is the implementing agent of the Bangladesh Accord, but this agreement is only effective until 31 May 2021. At the time of writing unions and brands are negotiating a new agreement but there are no guarantees this will come to anything, with some brands apparently happy to instead rely on the local body moving forwards.
