WASHINGTON – More than 90 civil society organisations have issued a joint statement demanding the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) take urgent steps to address what they describe as “severe harms” inflicted on workers and communities by Indorama Agro, a major cotton producer in Uzbekistan. The company, which received US$130m in financing from both institutions, is accused of widespread labour rights violations and contributing to the displacement of thousands of farmers.
