China team uses enzymes to crack polyester-cotton recycling

BEIJING – Chinese researchers have reported a fully enzymatic route to recycle dyed polyester-cotton textiles into high-purity terephthalic acid (TPA). Terephthalic acid is the key monomer that reacts with ethylene glycol to make polyester (PET).
