BEIJING – China has sanctioned several companies used by fashion brands to trace cotton and show compliance with US forced labour legislation. The retaliatory move potentially creates a new obstacle for brands sourcing textiles from the country.
China’s Ministry of Commerce has placed six US organisations on its countermeasures list, including Applied DNA Sciences, Stratum Reservoir and Altana Technologies. All of these provide technologies that can be used to identify or investigate links between products and China’s Xinjiang region.
