PORT ELIZABETH – China, the world’s largest importer of wool, has confirmed that the suspension of all wool imports from South Africa will remain in place for the foreseeable future due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the country. The ongoing suspension could likely see price increases of Australian wool as global supply is squeezed. Indeed, output of Australian wool was already down last season due to one of the most serious droughts in recent decades.
