BRUSSELS – The European Union should ban the deliberate destruction or disposal of unsold clothing from 2023 onwards, a new policy paper has argued. Such a ban should apply to both-new and returned goods, as well as to producers, retailers and any third parties commissioned by them. The paper lists clothing and textiles as one of the two biggest problem products for high return rates. Up to half of the clothing products ordered online are returned, while clothing products are double as likely to be destroyed compared to electronics.
