Brands warned of forced labour cotton risk

WASHINGTON – Campaigners are warning that cotton produced with state-imposed forced labour in Turkmenistan may be entering global fashion supply chains. The risk is linked to textile manufacturers in Türkiye, Pakistan and parts of Europe.

The warning follows a new report from Cotton Campaign members Turkmen.News and the Turkmen Initiative for Human Rights, which says forced labour remained widespread and systematic during Turkmenistan’s 2025 cotton harvest.
