MUMBAI – Birla Cellulose, a global leader in the viscose industry and part of US$48.3bn Aditya Birla Group’s pulp & fibre business, has set a target to reduce its water intensity by 50 per cent by 2025 from a baseline year of 2015. The business, which says it is already 30 per cent towards its target, says the reduction will be achieved by the application of new technologies based on the principles of 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Birla says it will continue to focus on best practices in the area of water management and innovations that allow the reuse of water multiple times, as well as technologies such as membrane processes to clean up and recycle the wastewater.
