LONDON – The Better Cotton Initiative has missed its 2020 targets for growth, as well as brand and retailer uptake of Better Cotton. The cotton standard’s latest annual report shows Better Cotton accounted for 22 per cent of global cotton production for the phase ending 2020 – 8 per cent down on the 30 per cent target set by BCI as part of its most recent 5-year plan. At 6 per cent, Better Cotton Uptake – the amount of global cotton sold as Better Cotton – was 4 per cent down on the 10 per cent target set by BCI.
