Belgium announces support for used textile sector

BRUSSELS – Government officials have announced a package of measures to stabilise Belgium’s used textile sector amid an “unprecedented crisis.” The crisis comes after a new national obligation to separate textiles for collection entered into force on 1 January 2025. The sector, dominated by social economy organisations such as Terre, Oxfam and Les Petits Riens, is buckling under mounting logistical and financial pressure.
