BEIJING – The Shanghai office of the Better Cotton Initiative has complained that the head office of the global cotton standard ignored its audit findings which gave Xinjiang cotton a clean bill of health.
In response to international concerns being raised about human rights issues in Xinjiang, BCI’s Shanghai office claims a strict review of BCI’s cotton projects in the province was carried out in collaboration with international audit and testing agency, SGS. These findings were apparently ignored by BCI’s head office in Geneva.
