LUDWIGSHAFEN – Chemicals giant BASF and Spanish fast fashion group Inditex have announced the launch of a new nylon they claim is made entirely from textile waste.
Loopamid is a polyamide 6 (PA6, also known as nylon 6) which BASF and Inditex claim is made from 100 per cent waste nylon. As part of the launch, Inditex brand Zara has produced a jacket made entirely from loopamid which has been made available globally.
BASF told Apparel Insider it plans to scale this technology and is considering building a PA6 recycling plant. The company would not share specifics around pricing in terms of recycled versus virgin Nylon 6.
