DHAKA – The findings of a new feasibility study indicate that Bangladesh has huge potential in technical textiles, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE). The study was commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with support of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The findings suggest that while there are several industry bottlenecks that need to be tackled, the shift into technical textiles represents a realistic diversification strategy for Bangladesh. Such a move would offer greater margins for textile manufacturers which, at the present time, are focused in the main on low cost staple garments. It might also offer Bangladesh textile factories a greater bargaining position with buyers.
