WASHINGTON – The International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) has unveiled results from a major research initiative that merges traditional agricultural practices with modern science. The project aims to improve soil health, boost cotton yields, and mitigate climate change effects.
Soil health is crucial to cotton farming, directly influencing crop yields, resistance to plant diseases, and the resilience of farms against climate change. Healthy soils also play a broader role in filtering water, storing nutrients, and sequestering carbon. Yet, in many developing countries, soil degradation limits productivity. To address this, ICAC has introduced techniques aimed at regenerating soil fertility and ensuring sustainable farming practices.
