Trial doubles recycled cotton share in ring-spun yarn

ZURICH – Recover, Rieter and Birla Cellulose say a joint trial has shown ring-spun yarns can be made with 40 per cent mechanically recycled cotton. This is double the roughly 20 per cent level commonly used in industrial practice, by replacing virgin cotton in the blend with lyocell fibre.

The companies said the work points to one possible route for raising recycled cotton content in yarns without the quality losses that have traditionally limited wider uptake.
