LENZING – The wood-based cellulosic fibres of Austrian speciality fibre business Lenzing fully biodegraded in 30 days, while fossil-based fibres were practically unchanged after more than 200 days in tests by independent scientists. The tests were carried out by a study team from the prestigious academic research institute Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California, San Diego. The research was the result of an independent project trying to understand the ‘end-of-life’ scenarios for textiles and nonwovens discarded in the environment.
