LONDON – Fashion’s race to scale lower impact materials and cleaner manufacturing is being slowed by a structural imbalance in who carries the risk. A report by the Transformers Foundation claims suppliers are routinely expected to absorb the cost, disruption and uncertainty of trialling new fibres, chemicals and processes, often without firm demand commitments from brands.
