PARIS – The disposal of old clothing will become illegal in France as part of new laws aimed at improving the ecological footprint of the country’s textile and apparel industries. New wide-ranging legislation will also make it compulsory for clothing retailed in France to contain environmental and social information on hangtags as part of a transparency drive. To address the challenge of microplastic pollution and the impact of microfibre shedding on this problem, in the next three years all washing machines retailed in France – whether domestic or industrial – will have to be fitted with special filters.
