Potential record fine looms for Temu in Europe

BRUSSELS – Temu, the Chinese online retailer of clothing and consumer goods, could face a multi-billion-euro fine if the European Commission upholds its preliminary Digital Services Act (DSA) breach findings. The DSA allows for penalties of up to 6 per cent of a company’s global annual turnover. With Temu’s estimated 2024 revenues exceeding US$70bn (around €65bn), the potential fine would be among the largest imposed under the new law.
