Unifi launches recycled textile waste products

GREENSBORO – Unifi, a company specialising in recycled and synthetic yarns, has announced the launch of two new products, expanding its circular Repreve portfolio. The additions include a white-dyeable filament yarn and an insulation material called ThermaLoop, both developed using the company’s Textile Takeback process.

The new products are made from 100 per cent recycled polyester feedstock, with at least 50 per cent of the material derived from textile waste. These offerings, it is claimed, meet virgin-quality standards. The Textile Takeback process allows for the recycling of both post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste on a global scale.

The Repreve filament yarn is a white, dyeable, high-performance polyester suitable for a variety of applications across different industries. This yarn, along with other products in the Repreve line, includes FiberPrint tracer technology, which supports U-Trust certification for traceability.

ThermaLoop insulation, which is available in forms such as down-like fibre, fibreball, and padding, is designed to offer performance, recovery, and thermal efficiency. The padding is produced using Repreve low melt fibre, a technology that allows for the creation of synthetic padding made entirely from recycled materials. The black ThermaLoop insulation product highlights the use of diverse textile waste as feedstock.

These new products are now available globally and are designed to integrate into existing supply chains. UNIFI has set a target to recycle the equivalent of 1.5 billion T-shirts’ worth of textile waste by 2030.

The circular Repreve filament yarn is made from 100 per cent recycled materials, with at least 50 per cent textile waste, and can be dyed using standard processes. It can also be enhanced with performance technologies such as anti-odour and moisture-wicking. The yarn is traceable through FiberPrint technology and holds certifications from U-Trust, Oeko-Tex, GRS, and SCS for recycled content.
