AMSTERDAM – Patagonia, Nike and C&A are accused of profiting from forced labour in the Xinjiang region of China in a criminal complaint filed by the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR). The non-profit has previously launched legal action in Germany against brands and retailers, including Hugo Boss, over similar allegations relating to Xinjiang, as well as supporting a case brought by NGOs in France.
In the complaint, ECCHR accuses the companies of directly or indirectly abetting and profiting from the forced labour of Uyghur Muslims in the region and argues that they might therefore be involved in crimes against humanity.
