HAMBURG – TextileGenesis, a subsidiary of the Lectra Group, has announced an extension of its partnership with the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) to bolster the traceability of Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) fibres.
CmiA, a global cotton standard, works to uplift smallholder farmers in Africa while prioritising environmental preservation. The enhanced partnership will see TextileGenesis’ cutting-edge Fibrecoins technology utilised to offer brands greater insight into the origins and processing of CmiA-verified materials. The initiative ensures full supply chain visibility, from raw cotton to finished garments, improving the credibility of sustainability claims in fashion.
The collaboration builds upon a successful 2024 project between TextileGenesis and AbTF for The Good Cashmere Standard. By integrating CmiA into TextileGenesis’ traceability platform, brands gain access to a unified system supporting multiple sustainability standards, streamlining processes and improving efficiency.
The partnership reflects broader industry trends towards transparency, driven a rapidly evolving regulatory environment. “Transparency and meaningful change are at the heart of CmiA’s mission,” said Christian Barthel, head of business development at AbTF.
Amit Gautam, founder and CEO of TextileGenesis, highlighted the importance of the partnership in supporting both the environment and the livelihoods of African farmers.
