XINJIANG – Researchers at Agroisolab in Jülich and the Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Germany claim to have used isotope analysis to identify traces of Xinjiang cotton in Puma and Adidas T-shirts, shirts by luxury brand Hugo Boss and the German outdoor wear brand Jack Wolfskin, and a top by fashion company Tom Tailor. Isotope analysis is used by scientists to trace the geographic origin of organic or non-organic substances. Oritain, the textile traceability specialists, recently used isotope technology to test and authenticate wool fibres from the British Isles.
