COLOMBO – Sri Lanka’s garment industry has refuted Clean Clothes Campaign accusations that it is failing to prioritise worker safety. Clean Clothes recently claimed both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are failing to prioritize garment worker safety during the pandemic and putting orders about the health and safety of workers.
However, Sri Lanka’s Joint Apparel Association Forum has hit back – claiming Clean Clothes ignored its offer to clarify the current situation in Sri Lanka. In a statement, the JAA said 90 per cent of the garment workers in factories have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and, of that number, 70 per cent have received their second dose.
