COLOMBO – Sri Lanka’s apparel industry has refuted claims by Clean Clothes relating to unpaid wages by Sri Lankan garment manufacturers during the pandemic. The Joint Apparel Associations Forum (JAAF) claims Clean Clothes failed to speak to members of Sri Lanka’s apparel sector and consequently made inaccurate estimates relating to the size of the workforce in Sri Lanka’s apparel industry, job losses and claims of unpaid wages.
The Clean Clothes Campaign Report ‘Still Un(der) Paid: How the garment industry failed to pay its workers during the pandemic’ looked at the breadth of the lost wage (wage gap) garment workers in Asia have experienced during the pandemic.
