LONDON – The global fashion industry needs to undergo radical change to address its huge environmental impact, claim an international team of researchers. In a detailed paper, they argue that “slow fashion is the future.” Among other things, they call for an increase in clothing rental, better recycling processes, improvements in pollution control technology and the innovative use of offcuts. However, their arguments are somewhat undermined by their repetition of the widely discredited claim that the “fashion industry is the second largest industrial polluter after aviation.”
