DHAKA – Ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh which have invested heavily in sustainability cannot convince to buyers to “pay two cents extra for garment items.” These claims were made at the launch of a new programme by Bangladesh’s Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), with support from the Swedish government. The programme aims to secure the “green transition of the textile and readymade garments sector in Bangladesh’ in Dhaka,” and a key aspect of this will be addressing why investment in green production is failing to translate into higher margins for garment makers.
