LONDON – A new PETA Asia video investigation claims to have uncovered evidence of animal cruelty on cashmere farms and in abattoirs in China and Mongolia – the two countries responsible for 90 per cent of the world’s cashmere production. Video footage by the NGO shows goats that have been left bloody from the hair-removal process and received no pain relief or veterinary care. Peta also claims that in China, goats deemed no longer profitable are routinely being slaughtered after workers “hit them in the head with a hammer in an attempt to stun them.” Mongolia, footage shows workers dragging goats by one leg onto the abattoir floor before slitting their throats in full view of other goats.
