OSLO – The use of Higg Index ‘sustainability profiles’ on clothing labels could in practice be banned in the Norwegian market as part of a crackdown on greenwashing by the Norwegian Consumer Authority. The authority recently wrote to Norrøna, a Norwegian outdoor brand, expressing concerns about its use of Higg Profiles in its marketing. Norrøna was informed that its use of Higg Profiles appeared to break guidelines under Norway’s Marketing Control Act, which covers green claims made by businesses.
The Norwegian Consumer Authority recently met with the SAC to discuss issues pertaining to Higg, including the Norrøna case. Apparel Insider understands the responses they received from the SAC failed to allay their concerns.
