BERLIN – German brands are embracing a new national certification standard for the textile and apparel industries. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation has informed Apparel Insider that since the launch of the Green Button (Grüner Knopf) in September 2019, 31 companies have been fully certified to the standard, while more than 100 are in the certification process or have expressed an interest.

The Grüner Knopf certification has been developed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and is the world’s first state-supervised certification mark that sets compliance standards for fashion and household textiles. The standard is open to all companies producing and/or selling textiles, including manufacturing companies and trade companies that sell third-party products under their own brand name.
