AMSTERDAM – Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA), Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) and the Worker-driven Social Responsibility Network (WSRN) has launched a new campaign to generate debate and discussion around living wages for garment workers. The trio have put forward new proposals via a website – WageForward.org – which would see a shift away from voluntary agreements by brands on such issues, which they rightly point out are not working.

The nub of their proposals is that brands should pay an additional living wage contribution on every order they place with garment suppliers. This contribution would be paid by the brand to the supplier, and then distributed by the supplier, visible on the pay-slip, equally to all its workers.
