NEW YORK – A survey of global denim suppliers has laid bare the huge power imbalance between brands and denim supply chains. The Transformers Foundation sent the survey to 79 leading denim suppliers and jeans factories, however, just 25 responded, with many declining to respond out of fear of reprisals from brands and retailers – even though the survey was anonymous.

The survey found that most denim suppliers experienced unilateral decisions to cancel and delay orders, delay payment, and extend payment terms, with no possibility for negotiation or discussion.
