PAIMIO – A new recycling plant in Finland will handle around 10 per cent of the country’s textile waste, offering recycling alternatives to landfill and incineration. The plant, which will commence operations in 2021, will be able to handle around 12,000 tonnes of household and corporate textiles annually. It is claimed the plant will use state-of-the-art technology – with no chemicals – to recycle textile waste into high-quality raw materials, including textiles and apparel and nonewovens. Downcycled products for the building, hygiene and cleaning sectors will also be key product streams.
