BRUSSELS – The use of policy instruments, including tax breaks and subsidies, should be used to drive improved textile and apparel recycling in Europe, claims a new report. Produced by Ecopreneur.eu, the European Sustainable Business Federation, the report calls for “decisive policy measures to create an enabling framework.” The report cites painfully low clothing recycling rates – which stand at just one per cent, despite all the closing the loop rhetoric – and suggests there is an urgent need for a strategic shift towards a more circular model.
