NEW YORK – A statement to the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs has raised serious questions about the continued presence of Huafu on the council of the Better Cotton Initiative. Dr. Adrian Zenz quoted a previous story by Apparel Insider in a recent House of Representatives testimony at a hearing titled ‘Authoritarianism with Chinese Characteristics’ of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. He raised serious questions about the relevance of social audits in Xinjiang at the present time.
Zenz, a leading international authority on Xinjiang regularly quoted by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and BBC, told the House of Representatives hearing: “Asking for an ‘independent social audit’ in an environment as controlled as Xinjiang [at the present time] is like asking the fox to check that no hens are missing.”
