BANGALORE – The International Sericultural Commission (ISC), an Indian government body representing the country’s silk industry, is to register a complaint in the US about silk’s score on the Higg Index of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition. The likely complaint mechanism will be the Federal Trade Commission which governs false advertising claims.

The ITC claims the data underpinning the Higg MSI score for silk is of poor quality and out of date – among numerous other issues – and is consequently “impairing the livelihood opportunities of millions of poor people as mandated under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations.”
