TIRUPPURThe Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) has called for the Indian government to ban the export of cotton amid ongoing price volatility in global cotton markets. The call follows previous requests to remove the current 11 per cent import duty on cotton.

India is the world’s second largest cotton producing country behind China. These are followed by the US, Brazil and Pakistan. Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab are the major cotton production regions in India.
