BRUSSELS – The International Wool and Textile Organisation has told Apparel Insider the Higg MSI fibre scoring tool of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition does not “represent a level playing field” for natural fibres compared with polyester and other synthetic fibres. The wool trade organisation was responding to our recent story which highlighted how Peruvian alpaca organisations have called for the SAC to retire its Higg Index score for alpaca wool fibre pending the completion of new LCAs by the Peruvian Government.

“IWTO empathises with the issues faced by alpaca growers as the Higg Index does not represent a level playing field, scoring all natural fibres poorly in comparison to polyester and other synthetic fibres,” the IWTO told us in a statement.
