AMSTERDAM – A new tool which is attempting to map every garment factory in the world has gone live. The beta version of the Open Apparel Registry (OAR) launched year, and this week went live following user feedback. The registry aims to become the go-to source for identifying all global apparel facilities and their affiliations by collating disparate supplier lists from industry stakeholders into a source map and database. It is part of a transparency drive in the global apparel industry, and could place pressure on those brands which are still continuing to make their global apparel supply chains public.
