LEEDS – George, the UK clothing arm of retail giant, Asda, is offering desperate suppliers 50 per cent towards the price of cancelled orders on a ‘take it or leave it’ basis – despite many George stores in the UK remaining open for business. The company told suppliers its offer is, “as a gesture of goodwill, with no admission of liability and to support your business during this unprecedented and difficult time …” To entice suppliers to accept its proposal, Asda is offering to pay invoices within seven working days.
When Apparel Insider spoke to Asda, they strongly rejected our suggestion it was exploiting supplier desperation to gain huge discounts.
