LONDON – A new investigation claims ‘trash quality’ garment exports from the EU to Kenya are being dumped, burned to heat water, for cooking – and even allegedly to fuel a power station. The study claims EU countries are now dumping 37 million items of ‘trash’ quality garments in Kenya every year that are too dirty or damaged to be reused.

The waste created by the clothing is claimed to be causing serious health and environmental problems for vulnerable communities according to the the investigation, which looked at trade data and conditions on-the-ground.
