LONDON – UK retailer Marks & Spencer and German online fashion brand Zalando have responded to warnings from UK regulators that businesses have until the New Year to make ensure their green claims comply with the law. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has warned that businesses making misleading, ‘greenwashing’ sustainability claims risk fines and other penalties as part of a clamping down on greenwashing by the authorities – with fashion and textiles a priority sector under the microscope.
