AMSTERDAM – Venture capitalists are missing out on huge opportunities to invest in sustainable technologies for the apparel industry claims a new report by Fashion for Good. It suggests sustainable innovations and solutions currently exist but there is a lack of capital available to scale them in the apparel supply chain. Moreover, it is argued that the lack of investors in this space means there is “relatively little competition.”
The report, called Investing in Textile Innovation, suggests the amount of capital available in the textile innovation space is still small in comparison to “the aggregate financing requirement of the most promising innovators.” It adds: “As a result, access to early and mid-stage venture capital funding consistently crops up as the most pressing element hindering innovators from progressing.”
